Connect coding agents

Heplon can read the session transcripts of coding agents and use them to find development friction experienced by agents and developers. This guide covers the two steps: enabling an agent in the workspace, and installing the CLI on a developer machine.

To learn more about what gets uploaded, see Agent transcripts.

1. Add the connector

In Heplon, open Connectors, select Add connector, then the agent under Coding agents.

A coding-agent connector holds no endpoint and no credential: it only records that this workspace accepts transcripts from that agent. Select Add.

2. Install the CLI

Each developer does this once per machine.

Download the heplon binary from the releases page. It is a self-contained binary, so you install it by copying it to a directory in your $PATH:

tar -xzf heplon-<version>-x86_64-unknown-linux-musl.tar.gz
sudo install -m 755 heplon-<version>-x86_64-unknown-linux-musl/heplon /usr/local/bin/heplon
heplon --version

To set it up, run this command, pointing it at the URL of the Heplon instance you use:

heplon transcripts install --server-url https://app.heplon.com

This will authenticate this CLI installation against Heplon and install hooks in the coding agents to sync transcripts.

3. Verify it works

Start one of the coding agents you set up. After a few seconds, run this command:

heplon transcripts status

The output of the command will tell you if any transcripts qualified for syncing to Heplon.
